PITX cancels trips due to Super Typhoon Karding

The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Sunday announced the cancellation of several trips, due to Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru).

In an advisory released on its official social media page, PITX said the following trips have been canceled from Sunday, September 25, until further notice:

  • All Mindoro routes
  • All Visayas routes
  • Davao City
  • Tiwi, Albay
  • Infanta, Quezon

The P2.5-billion public-private partnership (PPP) project was awarded by then Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to MWM Terminals, a consortium of Megawide Construction Corp. and WM Property Management Inc. in January 2015.

Under the agreement, MWM Terminals will have a 35-year cooperation period with the government under a build-transfer-and-operate structure.

According to its project brief, the terminal was designed to be constructed within a 4.59-hectare site in Parañaque to connect passengers from Cavite to vehicles serving inner Metro Manila.

It also includes passenger terminal buildings, arrival and departure bays, public information systems, ticketing and baggage handling facilities, and park-ride facilities.

Before being rebranded by the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte as the PITX, it was previously called the Southwest Terminal of the Integrated Transport System (ITS) under the administration of former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.

The state weather bureau has already placed at least two areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5, indicating that winds of over 185 kilometers per hour are expected in at least 12 hours.

Several other areas in Luzon were also placed under other TCWS levels, with Karding expected to make landfall in the northern portions of Quezon or the southern portion of Aurora on Sunday night.

Classes in several areas on Monday, September 26, have already been canceled, along with a number of flights. —LBG, GMA News
