San Miguel waives toll fees on Christmas, New Year holidays
Tollways operated by the San Miguel Group are set to waive fees on select hours during the holiday season, but appealed for patience in line with the anticipated heavy traffic conditions given the expected increase in travelers.
In an advisory, San Miguel said toll fees in the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, the NAIA Expressway, and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union (TPLEX) Expressway will be waived from 10 p.m. on December 24 to 6 a.m. on December 25, and from 10 p.m. on December 31 to 6 a.m. to Jan. 1, 2024.
“This annual tradition is our way of showing the Christmas spirit, especially for those who for some reason will have to travel late and try to get home to their loved ones,” the advisory read.
“Through this, we hope to help spread the Filipino Christmas spirit, and also wish our countrymen well at the start of the new year,” it added.
The San Miguel group, however, called on motorists to account for extra travel time especially when it comes to traveling to transport hubs.
“We appeal to our motorists for patience with the anticipated heavy traffic around Metro Manila, and its impact to their scheduled flights or trips. We advise them to plan their trips ahead and allot more time for travel to make sure they come on time for their trips or flights,” it said.
The San Miguel group earlier this year expressed support for the move of the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) to shift to cashless collection in major tollways in the country, as it said this will reduce traffic congestion. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
