MRT3, LRT2 to offer Libreng Sakay to Filipino war veterans on April 5-11, 2024

Filipino war veterans may avail of free rides on the Metro Rail Transit (MRT3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) starting April 5 to 11 in celebration of the Day of Valor (Araw ng Kagitingan) and Philippine Veterans Week.

“Maghahandog ang MRT-3 ng isang linggong libreng sakay para sa mga beterano at isa nilang companion o kasama sa darating na Abril 5-11,” said Department of Transportation (DOTr) in an announcement.

(MRT-3 will offer free rides for veterans and their one companion for one week, starting April 5- to 11.)

The veteran must provide a valid ID from the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) to the station security personnel upon availing of the free ride.

"Kinikilala po ng MRT-3 ang mahalagang kontribusyon sa ating lipunan ng lahat ng mga beterano ng Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig. Kaya naman po bilang tugon sa kahilingan ng Department of National Defense, nais natin pagpugayan at pasalamatan ang ating mga beterano kahit sa simpleng paraan lamang. Ito po ay ang paghahandog ng libreng sakay sa loob ng isang linggo para sa kanila at isa nilang companion," DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT3 Officer-in-Charge Jorjette B. Aquino said.

(MRT3 recognizes the important contribution of all World War II veterans to our society. That's why, in response to the Department of National Defense's request, we want to honor and thank our veterans even in a simple way. We will offer free rides for them and one of their companions for one week.)

Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Atty. Hernando Cabrera also said offering the veterans free rides is the agency's way to honor their sacrifice and bravery.

"Ito pong libreng sakay ng LRTA ay para bigyang-pugay at kilalanin ang sakripisyo at kagitingan ng mga beterano. Nawa'y maipadama namin sa simpleng paraan ang aming pasasalamat sa inyo," he said. —Sherylin Untalan/KG, GMA Integrated News
