NLEX, DPWH, MMDA announce week to month-long road closures


The North Luzon Expressway Corporation, the Department of Public Works and Highways, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced week to month-long road closures in Metro Manila. 

In a Friday announcement, the NLEX announced lane closures along NLEX Balintawak from April 25 to May 2, 2024 to give way to the San Miguel Corporation's construction of the Northern Access Link Expressway project near the Balintawak Toll Plaza. 

Lane closures of at least 450 meters on both northbound and southbound directions Lane 1 (leftmost lane) and Lane 2 (middle lane) would be implemented. 

The road closure schedules were as follows: 

  • April 26, 10:00 p.m. - April 27, 4:00 p.m.
  • April 27, 9:00 p.m. - April 28, 2:00 p.m.
  • April 28, 8:00 p.m. - April 29, 4:00 a.m. 
  • April 29, 8:00 p.m. - April 30, 5:00 a.m. 
  • April 30, 8:00 p.m. - May 1, 5:00 a.m. 
  • May 1, 8:00 p.m. - May 2, 5:00 a.m. 
  • May 2, 8:00 p.m. - May 3, 5:00 a.m. 

Meanwhile, the MMDA said that the DPWH will reblock and repair the following roads starting 11 p.m. Friday-April 26 until 5 a.m. on April 29:

  1. Tandang Sora Avenue from Commonwealth Avenue going C-5, Quezon City
  2. Bonny Serrano Avenue corners of 15th Avenue and 20th Avenue, Quezon City
  3. EDSA SB from Eco Oil/ Shell Gas Station and White Plains Avenue (outermost lane beside sidewalk), Mandaluyong City
  4. IBP- San Mateo Road fronting Petromax Gas Station (1st lane from center), Quezon City
  5. Luzon Avenue SB Congressional Avenue Extension to before Luzon Flyover (2nd lane from center), Quezon City
  6. Payatas Road (bound to Batasan Road), before Maynilad Pumping Station to G3 Centre (Inner lane), Quezon City
  7. Payatas Road (bound to Batasan Road), Soliven before Deca Homes/Samar St. to Leyte St. (Inner lane), Quezon City
  8. G. Araneta Avenue Mauban St. to Sto. Domingo Avenue (2nd lane from the sidewalk), Quezon City
  9. Payatas Road Felicidad Compound to Leyte (Outer lane), Quezon City
  10. EDSA SB fronting Perkins Castle Power, opposite Gate 4 going to EDSA Shrine (beside concrete barrier/ bus lane), San Juan City
  11. Mindanao Avenue NB Tandang Sora Avenue-Rosal St. (Truck lane), Quezon City

According to the MMDA, the affected roads will be fully passable by 5 a.m. on Monday, April 29. 

Motorists were advised to take alternate routes.

The DPWH will also partially close a portion of Loyola Street, northeast bound in Sampaloc, Manila for drainage repairs starting April 27, 2024 to May 26, 2024.

"The drainage construction activities will start at the intersection of Loyola Street and Lacson Avenue (Northeast bound),12 linear meters from tapping of existing Lepanto-Gov. Forbes Drainage Main, and a width of 4.50 linear meters," it said. 

The construction will continue at the intersection of Lacson Avenue. 

Motorists were advised of traffic slowdown in the affected areas and to use possible alternate routes. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
