DOTr offers free train rides at LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3 amid bad weather

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday announced commuters can avail of free train rides at the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1, LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) following the cancellation of classes due to bad weather.

In an advisory, the DOTr said the free train rides started at 12:00 noon.

The implementation of free train rides was ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. due to heavy rains, which caused the cancellation of classes in various parts of the country, according to the Transportation Department.

The DOTr said the safety of passengers and ensuring an efficient and safe commute are its utmost priority.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 has been raised over 17 areas as Tropical Depression Isang is expected to traverse Northern Luzon.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (NDRRMC), meanwhile, has upgraded its alert status from white to blue due to the effects of tropical depression Isang.

In a Facebook post, it said this is to “closely monitor, consolidate and to ensure prompt coordination with concerned agencies and offices.”

The NDRRMC said the raising of the alert status is to prepare for a slow onset disaster or in anticipation of a situation escalation. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
