Quezon City gov't releases traffic advisory for Nov. 16-18 rally

The Quezon City government on Saturday released a traffic advisory to guide motorists ahead of the anti-corruption protest by the United People's Initiative (UPI) from November 16 to 18.

The local government unit said traffic congestion is expected in the following areas:

  • EDSA
  • Katipunan Avenue
  • Ortigas Avenue
  • White Plains Avenue
  • Temple Drive

A section of White Plains Avenue along EDSA and Katipunan Avenue will also be temporarily closed on Sunday.

“Nakaantabay ang mga tauhan ng Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD), Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), Task Force Disiplina, at Quezon City Police District (QCPD) para matiyak ang kaayusan ng daloy ng trapiko sa nasabing lugar,” the advisory read.

(The personnel of the Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD), Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), and Task Force Disiplina at Quezon City Police District (QCPD) are on standby to ensure the proper flow of traffic in these areas.)

“Pinapayuhan ang mga motorista na dumaan sa mga alternatibong ruta,” it added.

(Motorists are advised to go through alternative routes.)

Earlier, the Manila City government had announced road closures along Luneta Park, Mendiola, Liwasang Bonifacio, and Ayala Bridge during the protests.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) had said that they would deploy more than 16,000 policemen to ensure peace and order in the protest areas.

The protest organized by the Iglesia ni Cristo at the Quirino Grandstand is expected to draw around 100,000 participants, while the protest by UPI at the People Power Monument and EDSA Shrine is projected to attract 300,000 people. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
