LRT-2, MRT-3 to offer free rides on Rizal Day, Dec. 30, 2025

The Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will offer free rides to all passengers at certain hours on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 to commemorate Rizal Day.

The free rides or libreng sakay on both the LRT-2 and MRT-3 will be offered from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the management of the two rail transits announced Saturday.

December 30 or Rizal Day has been declared earlier by Malacañang as a regular holiday.

Rizal Day commemorates the death anniversary of national hero Jose Rizal who died on December 30, 1896 by firing squad at Bagumbayan (Rizal Park) for the crime of rebellion against the Spanish colonial government.

His death however sparked the move toward the Philippine Revolution and independence. —KG, GMA Integrated News
