The southbound lane of the EDSA Magallanes Flyover in Makati City will be reopened on Monday morning, April 6 as scheduled after undergoing repairs during the Holy Week break.

According to a report by GMA News’ EJ Gomez, the repairs – which included asphalt overlays, expansion of joints, and retrofitting – costed P180 million.

In an interview, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said part of the flyover was temporarily closed due to safety issues.

“So, inayos lang natin ‘yung mga joints nung flyover para masigurado na walang aberya. So, minadali natin ‘yung simula nung Thursday ng madaling araw hanggang today,” Dizon said.

(We just fixed the flyover’s joints to prevent any trouble. We expedited the repairs from Thursday early morning until today.)

Dizon said the flyover will be opened to vehicular traffic by 5 a.m. Monday. According to a later report by Super Radyo dzBB’s Nimfa Ravelo, the southbound lane of the EDSA Magallanes Flyover is expected to be opened to traffic by 6 a.m.

There will be repairs to be conducted throughout the week without closing the flyover. Dizon said the repairs will be done from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Dizon said he will also inspect road works at the EDSA Taft Avenue area to check the ongoing marking of lanes.

“Since nag 24/7 tayo, parang talagang ma-minimize na natin ‘yung aberya pagbalik ng trabaho ng mga kababayan natin from Holy Week. Eh marami din silang nagawa until today,” he added.

(Since we did the repairs 24/7, we minimized the inconvenience as our countrymen return from their Holy Week break. They were able to do a lot until today.)

The Department of Public Works and Highways – National Capital Region (DPWH NCR) announced the temporary closure of the southbound lane of the EDSA Magallanes Flyover last March 30.

This is to conduct a round-the-clock asphalt overlay work and repairs on the expansion joints of the flyover. — JMA, GMA News
