The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended its work day and classes in public elementary and high schools on January 2, 2019, a day after the New Year festivities.

The memo 193 series of 2018, dated December 19, was issued by Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Briones stated in the same memo that the suspension was in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 54 issued by the Office of the President last December 17 suspending work in all government offices on January 2.

“As such, work in all offices and units of the Department of Education throughout the country is suspended on the said date,” the memo read.

“Similarly, all classes nationwide from kindergarten to Grade 12 in public schools are suspended on the said date, while suspension of classes in private schools is left to the discretion of their respective school administrations,” the memo added.

The courts as well as state universities and colleges have already suspended work and classes on January 2. —Llanesca T. Panti/NB, GMA News
