Class suspensions for Thursday, January 23, 2025

Classes for Thursday, January 23, 2025, have been suspended in some areas due to the effects of the magnitude 5.8 earthquake that jolted San Francisco, Southern Leyte earlier in the day.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the earthquake occurred offshore around six kilometers from San Francisco at 07:39 a.m.

It had a depth of focus of 14 kilometers and was tectonic in origin, according to the PHIVOLCS.

Below are the list local government units and schools that declared suspension of classes:

• Maasin City – all levels, public and private
• Municipality of Pintuyan – all levels, public and private
• Cebu Normal University – all classes
• Southern Leyte State University, San Juan Campus -all classes
