WALANG PASOK: Class, work suspension in Sultan Kudarat for Friday, Jan. 30, 2026 due to earthquakes

Classes at all levels, both public and private, in Sultan Kudarat have been suspended due to the series of earthquakes that have hit the province.

In an executive order, Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu said the suspension will be in effect until further notice.

Also covered by the suspension are work and operations in government offices in the municipalities of Kalamansig, Lebak and Palimbang.

Work in all other areas of the province shall resume under a blended work-from-home arrangement, the order added.

“The health, safety, and security of our students, educators and school staff, as well as government and non-government workers, are of utmost importance,” according to the order.

It added that recent seismic activities, including tremors and earthquake incidents, have heightened concerns about the structural integrity and safety of educational facilities, as well as government and and non-govenrment offices throughout the province.

"In recognition of these developments, it is imperative to take immediate and effective action to protect the well-being of all individuals in our educational institutions," the order added.

A total of 2,264 earthquakes have been recorded in offshore Sultan Kudarat since January 19, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Thursday.

As of 7 a.m., the PHIVOLCS said that of the total earthquakes, 84 were felt. The magnitude of the earthquakes ranged from 1.3 to 5.9.

The PHIVOLCS earlier said that the series of earthquakes in the area may have been caused by movements along the Cotabato Trench.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
