WALANG PASOK: Class suspensions for Wednesday, August 5, 2026 due to Davao Occidental earthquake
Classes for Wednesday, August 5, 2026 have been suspended in some areas following the magnitude-6.4 earthquake off Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
- General Santos City — no classes, all levels, public and private; no work in private and public institutions
- Kidapawan City — no afternoon classes, all levels, public and private
- Koronadal City — no afternoon face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private
- Sultan Kudarat — no afternoon classes, all levels, public and private
The earthquake was originally reported as magnitude-7.0 before being downgraded to magnitude-6.4.
Sultan Kudarat authorities said the class suspension was necessary to ensure the safety and welfare of all learners as aftershocks were still possible. Students, parents, teachers, and school personnel were asked to remain vigilant, observe safety protocols, and monitoring official advisories.
Meanwhile, General Santos authorities likewise said the suspension of work and classes was critical for the safety and well-being of the public. It will also allow for the conduct of structural and safety inspections of various infrastructure.
