Tim Yap reflects on solo Burning Man experience

Tim Yap rode solo at Burning Man, a week-long art and community event in Nevada, United States.

On Instagram, the eventologist and Sparkle artist shared his experience, saying he did not know what to expect going into the event.

“I arrived with no sense of direction and not even knowing how to pitch my own tent,” Tim wrote. “But somehow, before our first briefing had even begun, I had built myself a little home in the desert. And from that first hour, I began to understand what they mean when they say: the playa provides.”

Per Tim, he learned how to ride an e-bike, cross the playa, check out artworks on his own, dance with strangers, and “came home covered in dust and was rescued again and again by strangers who became friends.”

“You participate. You contribute. You give what you can—and somehow, you receive so much more,” he said. “I’m still digesting the dust, the art, the kindness, the community and the parts of myself I met out there."

Tim ended his post “with a deeply grateful heart” for the experiences and being welcomed.

“And somehow, I feel my Burning Man story is only beginning,” he added.

Tim signed with Sparkle GMA Artist Center in 2025.
