Chin-Chin Gutierrez shares spiritual journey in Miriam College centennial book

Ever wonder where Chin-Chin Gutierrez went after her showbiz days?

The former actress is among the notable alumnae featured in “The Legacy We Carry: 100 Years From Maryknoll to Miriam,” a commemorative book celebrating the centennial of Miriam College.

Formerly known as Maryknoll College, Miriam College traces its roots to the Maryknoll Sisters, whose mission centered on faith, education, service, and compassion.

The commemorative book brings together the stories of alumni whose lives were shaped by the institution and who carried its values into their respective fields and communities.

Among those featured is Gutierrez, who pursued a different path after her successful career in show business, eventually embracing a life of spirituality and service as a consecrated lay person.

A consecrated lay person is a member of the Catholic Church who dedicates their life to God through commitments to poverty, chastity, and obedience while continuing to live and work in the secular world.

She joins a roster of distinguished Miriam College alumnae whose stories are featured in the book, including National Artist for Dance Alice Reyes, music icon Celeste Legaspi, Miss International 1964 Gemma Cruz Araneta, journalist Pia Ranada, acclaimed filmmaker Olivia Lamasan, environmentalist Ann Dumaliang, journalist and editor Jo-Ann Maglipon, and award-winning writer Cathy Babao.

“The Legacy We Carry: 100 Years From Maryknoll to Miriam” will be launched on September 12 during Centennial Night at the Fairmont Makati.

The book is priced at P5,000 and may be ordered through the Maryknoll-Miriam College Alumni Association.

A popular actress in the ‘90s, Gutierrez starred in numerous film and TV series such as “Maging Sino Ko Man,” “Jose Rizal,” and “Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal,” among others.

In 2010, she retired from acting.

In 2019, Gutierrez was reported to have become a Carmelite sister or nun with the name “Sister Lourdes” but there is no confirmation of this claim. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA News
