Lyca Gairanod addresses bashing she received in 2022
Lyca Gairanod has addressed the bashing she received in 2022 including following the social media accounts of President Bongbong Marcos Jr., and Vice President Sara Duterte and performing in their campaign rally.
During her guesting on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, the young singer said that it was nothing personal.
“As for me, when it comes to social media, I can follow anyone, it doesn't really matter to me. It wasn't personal. There was no issue. I said I wasn't really into politics,” Lyca said in Filipino.
According to the "Puede Nang Mangarap" singer, her father suffered a stroke back in 2022 and accepted any job offer to help her family, including performing at the said event.
“Even if I got bashed or people said things about me, I was willing to do it for the sake of my family, especially for my dad at that time, because it wasn't about me. It was my way of helping him. My only wish was for him to recover,” Lyca said.
“I had pursued that dream for their sake, so was I just going to give up? That was the first time something like that had happened, him suffering a stroke in 2022, and it was the hardest thing we ever went through,” she added.
Following the recent virality of her song "Puede Nang Mangarap,” Lyca was placed in a difficult situation when netizens questioned her about her political stance.
Responding to a netizen, Lyca said in a mix of Filipino and English, "I don't have anything to prove to you. I worked hard for my family. Please don't take it personally. Love you, y'all."
In a previous TikTok, Lyca also addressed the continued questions about her political views and asked why people were concerned about her personal choices.
"Why are you meddling in my affairs? I don't believe in anything when it comes to politics. That's it. I don't trust politics," she said in Filipino.
Lyca rose to fame after she emerged as the winner of the first season of “The Voice Kids Philippines” in 2014.
