Pura Luka Vega joins 'Miss Q and A' of 'It's Showtime'
Pura Luka Vega joined the “Miss Q and A” segment of “It’s Showtime” on Wednesday, where they shared their thoughts on freedom of speech during the competition.
During their introduction, the drag artist delivered the line, “I believe that the children are our future. Teach them well and to select better leaders.”
In the Wit Lang round, Pura was asked: “Should the LTO issue you a ticket if your mouth has no brakes?”
They answered that they should not be issued a ticket because they are not a vehicle, adding that freedom of speech should be protected.
“I believe that I should not be issued a ticket by the LTO if my mouth has no brakes because I am not a vehicle. Second, we have freedom of speech. We need to protect it. We need to not censor our thoughts, our beliefs, our understanding of the world,” they said.
“Therefore, there should be no tickets issued. Instead, we should encourage everyone to speak their mind. And I, thank you,” they added.
However, Pura did not win the competition. Leoki Inokuma Ganacias emerged as the winner of the day.
Pura faced criminal charges following a viral 2023 performance of “Ama Namin” while dressed in Jesus Christ’s likeness.
In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online in July 2023, Pura said that their "intent was to embody a version of Christ that is one with the queer audience."
In June 2025, Pura was acquitted by the Manila Regional Trial Court of charges of violating Article 201 and in September of the same year, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court dismissed all three criminal cases against the artist. —Carby Rose Basina/JCB, GMA News
