Direk Joyce Bernal's reason for taking on 'Genesis'

 
Last October 8, 2013 at the press conference of Genesis, GMANetwork.com caught up with Direk Joyce Bernal for an exclusive interview.
 
The talented director is known for making the hit TV series Marimar, Dyesebel, Ang Babeng Hinugot sa Aking Tadyang, Stairway to Heaven, I Heart You, Pare!, just to name a few.
 
It will be her first time to direct an adventure-drama series in GMA. We asked what made her decide to come out of her comfort zone and direct Genesis  on GMA Telebabad.
 
"Si Dong talaga yung main reason kung bakit ginawa ko ito. Hiningi niya. Nag-usap kami na gawin namin itong Genesis, kahit na hindi ko alam kung ano ito,” she reveals. She further adds that the Primetime King Dingdong Dantes is her inspiration for Genesis.
 
She admits that she encountered challenges since day one but is very thankful to Direk Mark Reyes for helping her on the technical side of the show.
 
"Hanggang ngayon nangangapa pa rin ako, pero mabuti na lang si Direk Mark [Reyes] 'yung naghahandle ng mga technical, 'yung mga mahihirap na part. May mga times na kahit hindi mo alam or wala kang masyadong know-how hindi ibig sabihin na hindi mo na kaya i-direct.”
 
She adds, "Gusto ko talaga ma-iba. Na-eexcite ako sa concept na iba siya, so okay na 'yun sa akin.”
 
How is it working with the cast of Genesis?
 
"Naging cast ko 'yung main sa Stairway to Heaven, nakita ko sila kung paano magtrabaho, kung gaano sila ka-dedicated. Nakakatuwa na makakasama ko ulit sila. For all the other cast, okay lahat sa akin.”
 
She says that she wants people to understand, appreciate and give chance to Genesis since the story has a really good concept.
 
"Gusto ko sana makuha ng mga tao, maintindihan, ma-appreciate, magustuhan yung kakaibang bigay ng GMA.”
 
“I hear reaction din na, 'Paano 'yan parang 'di ko matanggap na end of the world.’ Nu'ng una rin ‘di ko matanggap yung end of the world [part], but as I go along hindi na tungkol dun sa end of the world 'yung pinag-uusapan,” she said.
 
She adds, "It's kung ano na yung day to day na relasyon.”
 
But if it is indeed the end of the world, what will she do?
 
"Kunwari end of the world na, nanunuod ako ng pelikula, nandu'n ako sa IMAX, pwede yung pelikula ni Michael Jackson, or yung paborito kong pelikula, yung the House of the Spirits, buong araw habang kasama ko yung anak ko,” Direk Joyce replied.
 
She adds, “makipagkuwentuhan kung ano man, maghuhug, magkikiss, makikikain, makikiinom, kahit na ano basta makiki-ano ako.”
 
How about the person she will save first?
 
"Una siyempre yung anak ko, kailangan niya ng hug, kailangan magkasama kami. Tapos kung sino yung kaya, family.. 'yan yung una, parents, neighbor, my friends,” she said.
 
A happy world is what Direk Joyce wants to create, “Gusto ko happy. Gusto ko i-create 'yung heaven dito pa lang, para pagdating dun sa pakikipagtuos kay God, ready.”
 
At the end of the interview she left a special message to the Kapuso viewers, “sana bigyan niyo ng chance yung Genesis. Try niyo manuod ng kakaiba, ibang konsepto ng teleserye para magkaroon tayo ng ibang perspective.”
 
A different perspective with regards to the end of the world, "Yung pag-e-end hindi kailangan ang mundo nag-e-end. Things really end, ang buhay natin, relasyon, kung ano man, may after, may moment.”
