Apparel company Bench has issued an apology for "offensive elements" of its fashion show this past weekend.

The company came under fire over a segment in the show that featured actor Coco Martin walking on the runway with a woman on a leash. Former Gabriela Party-list representative Liza Maza called the incident a "degrading and dehumanizing portrayal of women."

Bench released a statement on its official Facebook page, acknowledging the criticism and saying that the incident will serve as a lesson for the company in the future.

"We at Bench shall continue to uphold the dignity of women and our commitment will remain so," it added.

Before the firestorm, the Bench event was the subject of much buzz because it featured popular showbiz artists, many of whom wore risque clothing. — JST, GMA News
