Pia Wurtzbach urges people #NoHateJustLove after Orlando mass killing

Even as the Orlando massacre has her heart, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach urged people to shun hatred and continue to love.

Pia has been known to champion the rights of the LGBT community since the beginning of her reign, giving highlight to the importance of HIV/AIDS awareness and equal rights.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, the Filipina beauty queen sent out her message of love and prayer to the victims and their grieving families.

She also included other victims of violence reported in the last few weeks, including “The Voice” alum Christina Grimmie, who was shot in front of her brother and fans after a concert in Orlando, Florida last Friday.

“You have my love and you are in my prayers. Between the Orlando shootings, the hospital shootings, the young girl from The Voice whose life was taken, the bomb that exploded in an airport in China, the missing airplane, the world is in need of unity and change,” Pia said.

The beauty queen added: “I am staying true to my word as the LGBT community is close to my heart. It's 2016, there's no room for hate anymore. #PrayForOrlando #NoHateJustLove”

Pia is a proud and avid supporter of the LGBT community and the rights of its members despite hailing from a predominantly Catholic country.

She brandished a rainbow-colored flag on her Instagram account this week to show her love and support to the community in light of the continuous discrimination and hate experienced by its members from all over the world.

“Yes, we all know everything that's been going around the world. Around the world. Not just in the United States. Why do people have to suffer? That's a question none of us can truly answer. But one thing I'm certain of, nobody deserves the feeling of terror. Nobody,” Pia said.

“And if you're wondering why I chose this photo? Because I am Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach from a highly conservative Catholic country but I am not afraid. Celebrated but also sometimes criticized. And staying true to my word, the LGBT community is close to my heart,” she explained.

Pia promised to continue being the voice of the minority, whether it be gender-based, religion-based, race-based, or otherwise.

“I will continue to be your voice, your ally, regardless of where you are from, what religion you believe in, what your financial status is, it doesn't matter. Filipinos respect diversity. And my dream is to see the whole world accept everybody for who they are,” she said.
