Celebrities show support for SOGIE bill

As further debate ensue on the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE) anti-discrimination bill, celebrities have taken to social media to show support for the bill and stand with the LGBTQ+ community.

Heart Evangelista, Catriona Gray, Pia Wurtzbach, Saab Magalona, Kelsey Merritt, Angelina Mead King, and Joey Mead King were among the celebrities who took a stand for the bill.

"It aims to protect the rights and welfare of everyone against discrimination based on their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression," Angie King explained on Instagram. "The bill, once passed into law, ensures equal access of everyone to social services, education, and employment."

Joey Mead King meanwhile shared the Q&As of the SOGIE Bill to help enlighten the public. "True equality means that the law protects everybody regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity," read one of the statements she included in her Instagram Post.

The SOGIE bill seeks to prohibit discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgenders (LGBT) in the workplace and educational institutions.

The urge for this bill to be passed was renewed after transwoman Gretchen Diez was dragged by a mall personnel and handcuffed by police officers after wanting to use a woman's bathroom in Cubao.

Just on Tuesday, President Duterte vowed to certify the bill as urgent. — LA, GMA News
