Beware of fake Kapuso celebrity accounts and pages collecting personal info for 'donations'

The public is advised to stay vigilant regarding fake social media accounts and online pages using the identities of Kapuso celebrities to collect sensitive information.

According to a report on "24 Oras" by Aubrey Carampel, a Facebook account using Marian Rivera's name announced that she was giving away P5,000 to people who send a private message.

The fake account has garnered more than 70,000 likes.

A fake "Maine Mendoza" Facebook account has also been claiming that GMA and "Eat Bulaga" are giving away P5,000 to P50,000 cash prizes.

Marian and Maine's manager Rams David has clarified that the celebrities have denounced these fake social media accounts that have been using their names and photos.

Meanwhile, a fake "Vic Sotto" account named "Bossing TV" has claimed that he was giving away cash to netizens who comment their name, address and contact number.

There was even an account created for "Project Alalay Kay Nanay," launched by Kapuso mommies to help mothers affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

In the report, the Philippine National Police (PNP) once again reminded the public to be more mindful of bogus accounts and giving away sensitive information on social media.
