Veteran actress Anita Linda dies at 95

Anita Linda, regarded as the “oldest active actress” in Philippine cinema, has passed away.

She was 95.

Director Adolf Alix, Jr., shared the news on Super Radyo dzBB, which was confirmed by Anita's daughter Francesca Lake-Legaspi.

According to Alix, Anita passed away due to old age on Wednesday, June 10 at 6:15 a.m.

The director also posted a photo with the legendary actress on Instagram, saying "This is a very sad day for me."

“I am trembling as I am gathering my thoughts... She is like my Lola and part of my family,” Alix wrote in the caption.

Anita Linda was born Alice Buenaflor Lake on November 23, 1924.

She has starred in numerous award-winning films like “Lola,” Alix’s “Adela," and “Ang Babae sa Bubungang Lata” for which she won the FAMAS award for Best Supporting Actress at age of 74, making her the oldest actress to do so.

Anita turned 95 in 2019, making her only a few years younger than Philippine cinema itself, which is currently celebrating 100 years.

Her friends and co-workers in the industry have started to extend their condolences to Anita’s family on social media.
