Winwyn Marquez says dad Joey Marquez found out only on Instagram she applied as Navy reservist

Winwyn Marquez has revealed that her parents Alma Moreno and Joey Marquez didn’t know she applied for a Navy reservist position, and her dad just found out when she posted about it on social media.

“My dad just saw it on my Instagram. Bigla niya ako tinawagan. Sabi niya, ‘ano na naman pinasok mo? Ano na naman ginawa mo? Ba’t di mo sinabi sa ’min!’” the actress said on Audrey Carampel’s “24 Oras” report Wednesday.

“Si mama sabi niya, ‘ano ba pumapasok sa isip mo!’” the Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 titleholder added.

Winwyn, however, shared that when she explained her decision to her parents and told them her reasons for joining, they understood her.

The actress first announced that she signed up for the Navy’s basic citizen’s military training in February.

Despite the pandemic, the beauty queen just began her training, which will run from August until November.

“We have physical activities,” said Winwyn. She also revealed that trainees wore face masks and shields even while they trained.

“It’s really hard to breathe lalo na naka-mask. ’Yun ’yung struggle namin, pero kinakaya namin kasi alam namin safety first. Minsan naka face shield pa kami.”

She said she was excited to graduate and become a member of the Navy reserve force.

“I’m looking forward kasi I’m going to wear a uniform with my name on it. Achievement na rin siya for me, for my country and for the people I love,” said the actress. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
