The full cast of Tanghalang Ateneo's Oedipus Rex, a timely adaptation during a time of adaptation. So excited to be acting alongside these TA alums, with whom I've shared incredible, indelible memories on and off-stage, during some of the most formative years of my life. The Ron Capinding directs with brilliance, ambition and a lot of guts. If this is the new language of theatre and performance then I couldn't ask for better classmates to learn it with, and figure out how to compel others to do the same. (And in case you were wondering, Miren still laughs - cackles - like a graceful hyena. And her legend holds.) Also, this is a launching pad. Welcome to the tribe Marian Rivera! Enjoy and stay will you? Ah theatre. Thanks for the save yet again. ??

"This is a launching pad. Welcome to the tribe Marian Rivera! Enjoy and stay will you?" Flores wrote in her caption.

In the comments section, Marian said, "Maraming salamat."

Flores replied to her, saying, "Maraming salamat sa pagtanggap!"

I haven't acted in a play in 14 years. So yes, I am anxious, ecstatic, thrilled and all those other feelings-- Not just to be back onstage, but to be back home, with some of my fellow-Tanghalang Ateneo alumni: Myself, my batchmate actor/writer/producer/filmmaker Katski Flores and our captain, lead actress Miren Alvarez-Fabregas, from our TA generation back in the late 90s; actor/host/Silly People's Improv Theater founder Gabe Mercado and actor/translator/director/educator Ron from the early 90s, and total creative genius Marlon Rivera, who had to suffer my horrible 45-second-long pauses between the words "ha" and "nino" (Malcolm's full line was "Ha, nino?") from the Rolando Tinio version of Macbeth that he directed us in back in maybe 1998. Not just to be playing Oedipus (I still can't believe I am playing Oedipus), but in a production adapted and directed by the Oedipus I watched as a junior, Ron Capinding; then my Filipino teacher in his first-ever year of teaching at the Ateneo High School--who 24 years later remains one of my great mentors and counselors but above all, one of my dearest friends (and kumpare namin ni Dong Dantes). Not just to be sharing the stage with one of our country's greatest film and television actors in Marian Rivera-Dantes, making her first-ever steps "onstage"--in one of the greatest tragedies ever told, no less, from about 500 years before, um, Jesus--but to be a student with her and everyone else on this squad trying to learn how we might be able to bring the Theatre to the people in the midst of a great pandemic. Ladies and gentlemen, please standby for "password: 03d1pu5_R3x", coming soon to a zoom meeting near you. #pandemictheater #oedipusrex
