‘Descendants of the Sun Philippines’ is coming to Netflix


On Nov. 13, fans of “Descendants of the Sun Philippines,” GMA Network’s adaptation of the hit South Korean drama, can watch their favorite episodes of the show on Netflix Philippines.

GMA Network is expanding its platform to reach more Kapuso viewers by strengthening its digital presence and providing top-notch entertainment. In celebration of its 70th anniversary, GMA produced its biggest production this year, “Descendants of the Sun Philippines.” It is the first GMA program to be streamed on Netflix. The local adaptation of the well-loved South Korean drama of the same title will be available on the popular streaming site in the Philippines.

The 65-episode series will be streamed on Netflix on eight consecutive Fridays beginning Nov. 13. This was made possible by GMA Network’s Worldwide division, which handles the international syndication of the network’s content.

The complete schedule of “Descendants of the Sun Philippines” on Netflix Philippines is as follows: Episodes 1-30 will be available starting Nov. 13; 31-35 on Nov. 20; 36-40 Nov. 27; 41-45 Dec. 4; 46-50 Dec. 11; 51-55 Dec. 18; 56-60 Dec. 25; and 61-65 Jan. 1, 2021.

Dingdong Dantes and Jennylyn Mercado headline the romantic story of alpha team leader Captain Lucas Manalo and cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Maxine Dela Cruz, popularly known as “Big Boss” and “Beauty.” Joining them are award-winning actors Rocco Nacino and Jasmine Curtis-Smith as Technical Sergeant Diego Ramos a.k.a. “Wolf” and Captain Moira Defensor.

“Descendants of the Sun Philippines” also stars Chariz Solomon, Andre Paras, Jon Lucas, Paul Salas, Pancho Magno, Neil Ryan Sese, Renz Fernandez, Lucho Ayala, Prince Clemente, Nicole Donesa, Reese Tuazon, Jenzel Angeles, Ian Ignacio, and Carlo Gonzalez, among others. The series is directed by Dominic Zapata, who directed popular dramas such as “My Husband’s Lover” and “The Rich Man’s Daughter.”

Last September 10, the show received the Most Popular Foreign Drama award given by the 15th Seoul International Drama Awards. The 15th Seoul International Drama Awards also recognized Dingdong Dantes, who won the Asian Star Prize award for his stellar portrayal in the series.

“Descendants of the Sun Philippines” premiered on GMA last Feb. 10. However, production was suspended for seven months due to the quarantine brought about by the pandemic. Production resumed last month, allowing the series to resume its run on Oct. 26, starting with a two week recap.
