Maine Mendoza's mom seeks NBI help over 'deepfake' sex video

The mother of Maine Mendoza on Monday filed a complaint with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in connection with an alleged sex video that the actress has denied being in.

Mendoza's mother, accompanied by a lawyer, submitted a complaint before the NBI's Cybercrime Division, said division chief Victor Lorenzo.

Lorenzo said the NBI will look into the complaint and may summon those who will be found to have produced and circulated the video.

He said possible charges will be for violation of the Anti-Voyeurism Act, the Safe Spaces Act, as well as for cyber libel, unjust vexation, and identity theft.

Mendoza said last week that she is not the person in a supposed sex video that has been circulating online.

Her manager, Rams David, said the video is "fake" and was manipulated using deepfake technology.

Maine’s management, All Access To Artist, Inc., also urged the public “not to post, share, or otherwise circulate the video” as they “will not hesitate to take appropriate legal action against any person circulating the same.”

Last July, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray also sought the help of the NBI to track the people behind a "fake and digitally altered" photo that supposedly showed her topless.
