Andi Eigenmann defends her refusal to take selfies with some tourists in Siargao
Andi Eigenmann explained why she refused to take selfies with tourists in Siargao, revealing that some would even trespass and enter her home.
In a series of Instagram stories on Thursday, Andi addressed the issue after a netizen brought it up in a Facebook page, saying that the former actress refused to take a selfie with them twice.
"This post is not to discredit Andi but we just want to know if the humble Andi on social media is the same as Andi in real life because I and my guests experienced that we wanted to take a picture with her twice but she didn’t allow us," the netizen wrote. "When you hear about Siargao, one of the things that comes to your mind is their love story. So we’re excited to meet and take a picture with them but everything seems to be the opposite. We don’t judge her. We just want to know what your experience was when you tried to take a picture with her."
In response, Andi said that she thought people would just understand her need for privacy since she already quit the showbiz industry.
"Now, I understand that’s not the case because of our YouTube channel,” the former actress said. “Of course, I find it super cool that you know, you love watching our videos and seeing more of our kids every day or that has become your stress relievers. And I find it amazing that there are a lot of you that think that our life out here is something to admire or something to achieve, ‘di ba, for yourself."
However, she reminded, "I'm human also."
Listing down the reasons why she moved to the island, she said, "One of that is the peace, and simplicity, and being able to enjoy this paradise for what it is."
"Parang ang daya naman kung sabihin niyo sa ‘kin, ‘Kung ayaw mong magpa-picture, ‘wag kang lumabas.' Paano ako 'di lalabas (I think it's unfair for you to tell me 'If you don't want to have your picture taken, don't go out.' How can I not go out)?" she added.
Andi then said that when they can, they take the time to take selfies with tourists, but there are times that they really can't, especially when she's attending to her three kids and is in a hurry.
"If you really watch our family or support us and love us, sana you would understand tao lang din kami kagaya niyo (If you really watch our family or support us and love us, I hope you would understand that we are human just like you)," she said.
Andi also addressed the issue of tourists trespassing her home in Siargao.
"We also know that the island is small and it’s so easy to look for our house. Naiintindihan namin na maraming pumapasok sa bahay namin kasi wala pa kaming gate (We understand that many enter our home because we don't have a gate yet)," she said.
But she said that home is supposed to be a "place of rest" and "private property."
"So I hope you guys don’t get offended when we get shocked when you go inside, or ask us for pictures while we're having lunch, or we have just woken up," Andi added, laughing. "Honestly, we’re super happy you want to meet us, or you want to see us when you go here in Siargao pero hindi naman po pinatayo 'yung bahay namin para pasukin (But we didn't build this house to be trespassed)!”
As a final note, Andi urged the public to respect her and her family's privacy, especially within their own home.
“I really, really hope you guys respect our privacy and realize that we’re also humans and we need to feel when we’re home, we need to feel that we are safe, and that it is a place that we can enjoy being with each other and family.”
Andi has been living in Siargao with her fiance, Philmar Alipayo, and her three children, Ellie, Lilo, and Koa.
