Nelson Canlas recalls first time anchoring ‘Chika Minute’ with throwback photo from 2011

It’s been 10 years since Nelson Canlas first anchored “Chika Minute" and on Instagram Tuesday, the Kapuso journalist shared a photo from his pilot episode where, according to him, he was doing his “extro.”

“Today in 2011. I was tasked to substitute for [Pia Guanio] and anchor Chika Minute of 24 Oras. This was my very first time to step on the set of a primetime news program,” he wrote.

“I can never forget how Sir Mike (Enriquez) and Tita Mel (Tiangco) kept telling me to just breathe and relax,” he added.

The journalist also thanked his “bosses” who gave him a chance. “In the picture you can see how proud a friend Tita Mel was. My heart is eternally grateful.”

In the comments section, Dingdong Dantes shared how he still “clearly [remembers] this first 24 Oras broadcast of [his.]”

Apart from still being the anchor for the “Chika Minute” segment of “24 Oras,” Nelson Canlas is also a Senior News Correspondent for GMA News.
