Katrina Halili sings special anniversary theme song for ‘Wish Ko Lang’

"Wish Ko Lang" is debuting a special theme song for its 19th anniversary this July, and the voice behind it is none other than Katrina Halili.

The Kapuso actress talked about her surprise recording in an interview with "Unang Hirit" on Friday, a day before the iconic GMA-7 public service TV show airs its first special anniversary episode on Saturday, July 3.

Katrina said she was surprised when she was asked sing the new original song titled "Tinamaan Sa'yo."

"Hindi ko nga alam kung bakit ako 'yung naisip nilang pakantahin, pero sobrang happy ako pero kinabahan din talaga ako kasi bagong kanta 'to, di ba?" she said.

"Bagong kanta tapos theme song pa ng anniversary, so special talaga."

The "Wish Ko Lang" page posted a behind-the-scenes pic of Katrina at the recording studio last week.

Katrina admitted she was nervous about it at first, especially because she had to learn the lyrics to the new song, but, at the same time, the actress said she's very excited for "Wish Ko Lang" fans to hear it.

"Akala ko talaga joke, like, totoo ba ako talaga yung papakantahin niyo? Tapos na-excite naman din ako, pero nung binigay sakin yung kanta bago kasi sobrang nahirapan ako, sabi ko, pano to? Sabi ko, gusto ko na atang mag-back out," Katrina said on UH.

[I really thought it was a joke at first, I was like, really, you want me to sing? I got excited, but it was hard to learn the lyrics to the new song. I said, how can I do this? I think I want to back out.]

"Pero ayun... naging okay naman siya ng maayos. Happy ako and excited ako na marinig ng mga tao 'yung nirecord namin."

[But it turned out okay in the end. I'm happy and excited for people to hear what we recorded.]

“Wish Ko Lang” is GMA-7’s award-winning public service show that features inspiring stories from real-life Filipinos.

In celebration of its 19th anniversary, the show is presenting a series of star-studded special episodes this July.

The first special episode, "Ang Forever ni Ms. Virgie,” is premiering this Saturday, July 3, and it will star new Kapuso Pokwang, alongside Jeric Gonzales and Arra San Agustin. – Margaret Claire Layug/RC, GMA News
