Johnny Manahan a.k.a. Mr. M is now a Kapuso!

Johnny Manahan, a.k.a. the one and only Mr. M, is officially a Kapuso.

GMA Network announced the newest member of the Kapuso family on Tuesday, July 13.

During an online contract signing event, the iconic director and starmaker said joining GMA was a "homecoming of sorts."

"I'm very happy that Atty, [Felipe] Gozon and the rest of the executives have given me this chance and opportunity to work with GMA-7 and become a Kapuso."

Mr. M added that he was "not exactly a stranger to GMA."

"This is like a homecoming of sorts and I’m very proud," he said.

Manahan said his team is already getting familiar with GMA Artist Center and expressed his excitement to work with its pool of promising artists.

"Ang main aim is to develop a new breed of GMA artists," he said.

"Kung ano pa 'yung kulang sa kanila, we hope to develop that and give them a brighter shine. So abangan niyo, mga Kapuso," he told GMA reporters.

"Maybe in six or seven months meron na kaming bagong mga artista sa GMA, and to the other artists who have been there a long time, I think I can learn from them, and I hope they can learn from us, also."

As a consultant to GMA Artist Center, the talent arm of GMA Network, Manahan clarified that he won't be doing any directing. "Just consulting with Artist Center and Entertainment," he said.

In his more or less 50 years in the industry, he has been responsible for the rise of some of the biggest stars in Philippine show business.

The renowned director and starmaker, who was formerly chairman emeritus of its talent agency Star Magic, made the decision to leave ABS-CBN in 2020.

On social media Monday, GMA Network teased that "a pillar of Philippine Entertainment" was about to join the Kapuso fold.

A story on the GMA Entertainment website followed, saying the aforementioned pillar of Philippine entertainment was actually a Kapuso but left GMA more than five decades ago.
