Matt Lozano and Big Bert have a lot more in common than you think

Are you excited to see Matt Lozano strap in as Big Bert Armstrong on "Voltes V: Legacy"?

The charming actor-musician might be playing a green-suited superhero who takes down enemies with a staff, but the two actually have a lot more in common than you think.

For one, Big Bert is a big guy who's not afraid to show his feelings.

"Unang-una, sobrang vulnerable ako na tao, and ganun din si Big Bert," he told GMA News Online in an interview.

"Kung mapapanood niyo 'yung anime series sobrang vulnerable. Palagi lang siyang iyak nang iyak," he said.

[First of all, I'm a really vulnerable person, just like Big Bert. If you watch the series, you'll see how vulnerable he is. He cries a lot!]

Another thing Matt loves about his character is how fun and loveable he is.

"At the same time, I'm very friendly. Gusto ko palagi kong kasama yung friends ko. Ganu'n din naman si Big Bert," he said.

"[Kaya para sa akin] talaga, hindi ganon kahirap 'yung adjustments pagdating sa character ni Big Bert at sa totoo kong personality, kasi ang daming similarities," he added.

[At the same time, I'm very friendly. I always want to be with my friends, just like Big Bert. That's why it wasn't that hard for me to adjust because there are so many similarities in our attitude]

Although he feels very proud that many "Voltes V" fans are looking forward to his performance, Matt also received hurtful comments about how he got the role only because of his body type.

Matt, however, had no intention of letting negativity bring him down.

"Marami akong nababasa na comments na, 'sino ba 'yan,' 'bakit nandiyan 'yan,' 'bakit pinupush ng ganito 'yan?' 'Ang taba taba naman niyan!' For me, okay lang eh," the actor said.

[I read a lot of comments saying 'Who is that,' 'Why is he there,' 'Why are they pushing this?' 'That guy is so fat.' For me, it's okay.]

"Actually, knowing that Big Bert’s role is very big, sobrang sikat niya, hindi lang sa Pilipinas, kung di sa buong mundo, kaya 'pag nababasa ko na happy sila na ako 'yung magiging Big Bert, sobrang happy din ako, but nervous and excited at the same time," he added.

[Actually, I know that Big Bert's role is very big. He's so famous, not just here but all over the world. That's why when I read comments saying they're happy I'm playing Big Bert, I'm very happy too, but also nervous and excited at the same time]

Matt Lozano, best known as the winner of Eat Bulaga’s singing competition “Spogify ft. Singing Baes," has already begun lock-in taping for "Voltes V: Legacy."

The highly-anticipated fantasy action series, based on the popular Japanese anime, also stars Miguel Tanfelix as Steve Armstrong, Ysabel Ortega as Jamie Robinson, Raphael Landicho as “Little Jon” Armstrong and Martin del Rosario as Prince Zardoz. – RC, GMA News
