Barbie Forteza to play a superhero for the first time on ‘Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko’

Barbie Forteza will play a superhero for the first time on the “Captain Barbie” book of the fantasy series “Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko.”

In an online interview with the press on Tuesday, the Kapuso Primetime Princess said she was happy to be offered the role because she had been watching superhero shows since she was young.

“To be playing one, it’s heart fluttering and we have the same name so I think it’s really for me. My costume is also very cute too, very wholesome and pink,” she said in English and Filipino.

According to executive producer Reylie Manalo, the team immediately thought of Barbie while they were thinking of the concept and deemed her “perfect” for the role.

Barbie will play the title role, a superhero who comes to the rescue when bad things happen. The twist? She is actually Bruce (Jeric Gonzales), a police officer, when she is not a hero.

Apart from wearing a costume that comes with various accessories that have different powers, she also finds the role “very empowering in a way” and “sweet.”

Barbie teased her character and costume on Instagram last month. “Ang pinakasweet na tagapagtanggol,” she said.

Directed by Rico Gutierrez, “Captain Barbie” will premiere on Aug. 15. It also stars Anjo Damiles. – RC, GMA News
