Ice Seguerra’s ‘Wag Kang Aalis’ sends important message to mark World Mental Health Day
Ice Seguerra’s new song “‘Wag Kang Aalis” just sent an important message to mark World Mental Health Day on Sunday.
In the lyric video released on YouTube, the song's message to a supporter is loud and clear: “‘Wag kang aalis. Diyan ka lang muna sa’king tabi. ‘Wag mong iiwan. Kailangan kita, nais malaman na ikaw ang karamay at sa iyo’y mahalaga,” the lyrics went.
“’Wag kang aalis. Kailangan kita ngayong sandali. ‘Wag mong iiwan. Kailan kita, nais malaman na ako ay may karamay at ako’y may halaga,” it added.
On Instagram, the singer shared writing “‘Wag Kang Aalis” based on his experiences from his personal struggles. He added that he cried when he first sang it to his wife Liza Diño.
“When I was writing this song, nilabas ko lang yung mga bagay na hindi ko masabi when I am going through my episodes. It was my hope that this song will help people as much as it helped me.”
He also took the time to send a message of hope to both those who have been suffering, encouraging them to seek help and to believe there is light.
“To the sufferer, I hope this song can bring you comfort during those times you feel alone. When you're at your lowest and you feel like giving up, wait it out,” he wrote.
“Take it one day at a time, or if that's too much, take it five minutes at a time. Know that it will pass. Do not give up on life and don't be afraid to ask for help. It's okay to ask for help.”
Meanwhile, for those serving as support, Ice gave them a reminder that they, too, are important.
“To the support person, I hope that through this song, you will know what we need when we are feeling down. We don't need much, we just need you. Your presence, your undivided attention. We need you to hear us out without any judgment.”
Through the nearly four-minute song, Ice said he hopes it will shed light on mental health.
“It is my deepest wish that we can normalize mental health discussions especially within families. Yes, it will be uncomfortable, it will hurt but it will also heal us.” — Franchesca Viernes/LA, GMA News
