Han So Hee's agency clarifies bedroom scene in 'My Name'
Han So Hee's agency released a statement and clarified that the South Korean actress knew about the bedroom scene in "My Name" prior to filming.
According to a Soompi report on Tuesday, news about the "misunderstanding" started to circulate after So Hee attended an interview last month regarding her new Netflix action series "My Name."
During the interview, So Hee mentioned her bedroom scene with co-star Ahn Bo Hyun and said, "I heard about the scene while we were in the middle of filming," which later on became a hot topic online.
In the interview, So Hee explained, "At first, I wondered, ‘Will this be okay?’ I thought it might distract from the overall storyline and become a distraction for Ji Woo’s overall goals. But after discussing it with the writer and director, I interpreted it as a scene where Ji Woo could show a more humane side of herself.”
After So Hee's words trended online, her agency, 9ato Entertainment released a statement on the "misunderstanding" surrounding So Hee's comment and corrected the insinuation that the bedroom scene was "decided on set without prior consent."
"We’ve concluded that a previous interview from October 20 in which actress Han So Hee stated, 'I heard about the scene while we were in the middle of filming,' could cause some misunderstandings depending on the listener’s perspective, so we want to reveal the decision process behind the scene in question to correct the facts," the agency said.
They further clarified that the scene was first discussed during the pre-production stage and conversations were exchanged on the possibility of filming a bedroom scene to express the character of So Hee's emotional change.
Since the script wasn't complete yet, the agency shared that the decision whether to include the scene or not would depend on the character's emotions while filming.
It added, "The phrase, 'I heard about the scene while we were in the middle of filming,' meant that the final decision for the scene in question was made in the middle of filming after discussion and careful consideration, and Han So Hee later explained [in the interview] the director’s and writer’s concerns and intentions as well as information about her consent."
9ato Entertainment also clarified that all the scenes in "My Name" were "carried out after sufficient discussion between the director, writer, production team, and actors."
The agency added that they wanted to address the suspicions since they knew how much the production team and actors worked hard on the project.
"In the future, we ask people to refrain from having false assumptions and misunderstandings about this matter. Thank you," 9ato Entertainment said.
"My Name," which also features stars Park Hee Soon, Kim Sang Ho, Lee Hak Ju and Jang Yull, revolves around Ji Woo (So Hee), a young girl who witnesses her father’s death and decides to seek vengeance. After enlisting the help of the largest drug cartel's leader, she penetrates the police force under a different name.
The series was released last month on Netflix and has been in the top 10 trending content on Netflix Philippines since its premiere. — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
