Ruru Madrid expresses joy in doing own action stunts for ‘Lolong’: ‘Pangarap ko maging action star’

Ruru Madrid expressed his happiness in being able to do his own action stunts for his highly anticipated action-adventure series "Lolong."

On Thursday, the actor shared in a media conference that although the action scenes in the series were difficult, he loved it to the point that he wanted to do his own stunts and not get a stunt double.

"Kaya ako nag-artista kasi pangarap ko maging action star. So ngayon na nabigyan ako ng opportunity na gumawa ng action na teleserye, sobra ko siyang love to the point na kahit sabihin na double dito, lagi ko sinasabi gusto ko ako gagawa nito," he said.

[I became an actor because I dreamt of being an action star. Now that I am given the chance to do an action series, I loved it so much to the point that even when they say that a stunt double should do it, I always say that I want to do it on my own.]

"Iba 'yung satisfaction nabibigay sa’kin na every time napapanood ko sarili ko sa TV, na ako gumawa ng stunt na 'yun."

[It gives me a different kind of satisfaction whenever I see myself on TV knowing that I did my own stunt.]

Before shooting for "Lolong" started, Ruru said he and the director had a conversation about the action scenes in the series.

"Napag-usapan na namin magiging madugo ’to kasi kailangan ipakita na napapanood natin sa ibang bansa kaya din natin. Tinanggap ko sa sarili ko na kailangan mag-train for this project."

[We said this was going to be difficult because we need to show that we can also do what we see in other countries. I have accepted that I need to train for this project.]

Ruru also shared that he had an action scene that he shot from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

There was also a scene where he had to jump from a building's second floor. Although there was an option for a stunt double to do it, Ruru said he asked the director if he could try it himself.

"Alam mo 'yung feeling na may isang bagay na gustong-gusto mong gawin na napagbigyan ka," he said.

[You know the feeling when there’s something you want to do so bad and you’re given the chance to do it.]

Ruru said he and the other cast members were set to undergo a two-month lock-in taping to finish shooting for "Lolong."

"I am very excited kasi finally ito na. Medyo na-delay kami dahil na rin sa surge of the new variant of COVID-19," he said.
