Kylie Padilla is set to come back on primetime TV with ‘Bolera’


Kylie Padilla admitted that she's a fan of the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit," which was why when she got offered the lead role for an upcoming sports-related project, "Bolero," without hesitation, she said, "yes, yes, yes!"

"Bolera" is a new primetime drama series on GMA Network. It follows the story of a billiard prodigy named Joni who aims to prove herself worthy in a male-dominated sport, billiards.

During Monday's "Bolera" media conference, the Kapuso actress couldn't contain her excitement for Kapusos to watch their upcoming show, which is her comeback on TV since her last project in 2019, "TODA One I Love."

"Ang ganda kasi nang pagkakasulat ng characters and [I think] we pulled it off," Kylie told during the mediacon.

Joining Kylie in "Bolera" are her leading men, Rayver Cruz and Jak Roberto, who Kylie complimented as "the best" leading men for the show.

"Napakahusay nila. I'm grateful na 'yung comeback show ko, kasama ko silang dalawa," the "Bolera" star said.

Other veteran actors joining Kylie, Rayver, and Jak in "Bolera" are Jaclyn Jose, Joey Marquez, and Gardo Versoza, among others.

Were there any struggles Kylie experienced while shooting "Bolera"? The actress said aside from learning billiards with her left hand to stay true to the character, Kylie's main challenge was being away from her kids due to lock-in taping.

According to Kylie, she is a hands-on, full-time mom to two sons, Alas and Axl, when she doesn't have any work schedule.

"'Pag wala akong work, I'm just a mom. Mahirap ako contact-in pag ganon. Binibigay ko lahat ng oras ko sa mga anak ko," she said.

To recover from these struggles, Kylie shared advice from their "Bolera" director Dominic Zapata: "We have to make a show that is worth being away from our family."

Aside from her separation anxiety with her children, Kylie also dealt with some personal anxieties on the set. The actress is very vocal about this, hoping that it would spark more conversation about taking good care of our mental health.

Bolera is set to air on GMA Network starting on May 30, Mondays to Fridays, every 8:50 p.m. – RC, GMA News
