GMA-7 Hollywood correspondent Janet Nepales wins accolade at Southern California Journalism Awards

GMA-7's Hollywood correspondent Janet Nepales bagged an accolade in the recently held Los Angeles Press Club's 64th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards.

Nepales won third place in the Personality Profile - Foreign Correspondents category for her podcast interview, "HFPA in Conversation: Isabel Sandoval, a Trans Female Asian Filmmaker Making it in Hollywood."

Nepales, who writes the weekly column, Hollywood Insider, for GMA News Online, is based in Los Angeles and is a journalism alumna of University of Santo Tomas.

Other awardees at the event were Susan E. Seager, First Amendment Lawyer, ("The Guardian Award" for First Amendment Contributions), Marcus Yam, Los Angeles Times correspondent/photographer ("The Daniel Pearl Award" for courage and integrity in journalism), Christine Devine, Fox 11 news anchor ("The President's Award" for impact on media), Jamie Masada, founder/owner of Laugh Factory ("The Bill Rosendahl Public Service Award" for contributions to civic life), and Bill Whitaker, CBS' host for "60 Minutes" ("The Joseph M. Quinn Award" for Lifetime Achievement).

Nepales recently came out with her first limited edition hardbound coffee table book, "FASHION. Filipino. Hollywood. The World." The paperback edition is now available at Amazon.com.

Nepales, who is the first Filipina member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association that presents the Golden Globe Awards, was recognized by the Filipina Women's Network (FWN) as one of the "100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the U.S." in 2012 and as one of the "100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World" in 2013. She is a co-author of the first FWN book entitled "DISRUPT: Filipina Women: Proud. Loud. Leading Without A Doubt."

She is married to journalist-author Ruben V. Nepales with whom she has two daughters—Bianca Nicole and Rafaella Angelica.
