Pia Wurtzbach reveals she's training for her first marathon

Is Pia Wurtzbach in her athlete era? It looks like it, because the beauty queen has apparently been training for the New York City Marathon — her first race ever!

In an Instagram post, Pia revealed she's been training since late February.

The Miss Universe 2015 titleholder admitted that she was never serious about running and “[couldn't] even stand doing any sort of cardio then." However, she always "looked at runners with a lot of respect.”

However, Pia said that something clicked over the new year when she had COVID-19.

“I was just sick and tired of being sick and tired. I felt like, ‘Okay Pia if you don’t do it now, you’ll never do it,’” she said.

“So I took the chance! I joined the registration (not under a brand or org this time), made a donation and waited… and I got in! It didn’t take me [three] tries this time! Yay! My ticket to my first ever marathon,” she added.

Pia said that she's been having fun and that it improved her life.

"I feel better. I sleep better. I manage stress better," she said.

“And it feels so good to actually feel and see progress. Today, my weekend runs go for 18km [or more] when a few months ago I [couldn't] even finish 3k without hating everything. What I’m trying to say is—it’s all possible," she added.

And although she is currently in Italy, Pia has been continuing her training. She added that she’ll be sharing more of her running journey as the race gets closer.

To be held in November, the NYC Marathon is the largest marathon in the world, with thousands of runners coursing through the five boroughs of the city. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA News
