Boys Like Girls talks about challenges during pandemic, future plans of the band
It’s almost been a week since Boys Like Girls brought the thunder in Manila and fans are still absolutely hungover from their two-night concert!
Before their jam-packed shows last October 10 and 11, the four-piece American rock band sat down with GMA News Online to talk about the challenges they faced during the global pandemic and their future plans for the band,
“It’s good to be back,” Martin Johnson, lead vocalist began, as they reminisced the first time they set foot in the Philippines some 12 years ago.
“The reception has always been warm like everybody is really excited to have us there,” Martin said. “It’s really beautiful, the hospitality is always good.”
According to Boys Like Girls, the pandemic changed their lives just like everybody else’s.
“The pandemic changed everybody’s lives. It definitely changed ours. I think it made us all really grateful to be able to make music,” Martin explained.
One of the biggest challenges they faced was when their tour was consistently postponed due to the serious health restrictions and lockdowns brought by the pandemic.
“We couldn’t tour. We had 3 years of waiting to do this. That was a big challenge,” John Keefe, drummer, said.
“We had to keep pushing this later and later. We kept getting close and thinking we could do [it],” Paul DiGiovanni, lead guitarist, added. “[But] we got to move again. That was definitely a big challenge but we’re happy to be on the other end of it now and be actually here.”
Although the pandemic challenged the group, Martin said being able to return to Manila and being able to work on new music have become such huge gifts.
In fact, "Probably early next year, we’ll be putting out new music," Martin said.
Another testament to them working on new music? When asked which Boys Like Girls song would best describe their journey as a group, they answered a song yet to be released: "Outside," they said.
