Dennis Trillo says Julie Anne San Jose is perfect for role as Maria Clara

Dennis Trillo is all praises for his "Maria Clara at Ibarra" co-star Julie Anne San Jose.

In an episode of "Updated with Nelson Canlas," the Kapuso Drama King said he was surprised with Julie Anne's performance in the opening scene of the pilot episode.

"Habang pinapanood ko siya doon ko na-realize na parang sobrang perfect niya rin para doon sa character na Maria Clara," he said.

"Ang husay ng pagganap niya lalo na 'yong scene na nandoon siya sa torre at nagdadasal habang umuulan at pinaplano na niyang wakasan 'yong buhay niya," he added.

("While I was watching her, I realized that she is perfect for the character of Maria Clara. Her portrayal was excellent especially in the scene where she was in the tower and praying while it's raining and she's planning to end her life.")

Dennis said the Limitless Star gave justice to the very important scene that opened the series.

"Nakakatuwa na from concert performer, live performer na diva na magaling kumanta e kaya niya rin pala na gumawa ng ganito kabibigat na mga eksena at mag-portray ng ganung klaseng character as Maria Clara na sobrang demanding," he said.

("It's good to see that from a concert performer, live performer, a diva who sings brilliantly, she can also pull off heavy scenes like this and portray a very demanding character like Maria Clara.")

Dennis plays Crisostomo Ibarra, Maria Clara's sweetheart, in the historical portal fantasy series.

"Maria Clara at Ibarra" follows Klay (Barbie Forteza), a Gen Z nursing student who enters the world of Jose Rizal's novels "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo."

It airs on GMA-7 on weekdays after "24 Oras."
