Ely Buendia reveals how the setlist for the Eraserheads reunion concert came together

Ely Buendia has gone into detail about how Eraserheads put together the setlist for their recently concluded reunion concert.

In a series of tweets, the vocalist said that “it was a balance of wanting to please the audience and please ourselves.”

He added that since popular Eraserheads songs like “Fruitcake” and “Huwag Kang Matakot” were already performed in previous reunions, they felt that they "wanted to give the other unheralded songs a chance."

"We wanted to try new stuff too," he said.

During the press conference ahead of the concert, the band said that their setlist constantly changed.

Ely added that the original setlist had “1995,” “68 Dr. Sixto Antonio Avenue,” and “Balikbayan Box,” but the band felt that they needed to add more upbeat songs.

In another tweet, Ely shared why they did not perform songs from the 2001 album “Carbon Stereoxide.”

“It’s common knowledge that it’s the least popular album,” he said. “And much as the band loves all the songs in it, there were just too many songs that had to be prioritized. We didn’t want to put the crowd to sleep with unknown songs!”

Additionally, breaks were necessary to keep the band lasting throughout the whole concert, so they needed to have guests and long breaks in between acts.

In a now-deleted tweet, Raimund Marasigan also revealed that The Diegos’ opening set was all composed of songs from 1995 to set the mood for the album “Cutterpillow,” released that same year.

Also composed of Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro, the Eraserheads made history at their reunion concert held last December 22 at the SMDC Festival Grounds. The band drew in an estimated crowd of 75,000 fans. —Nika Roque/JCB, GMA Integrated News
