'Voltes V: Legacy': Here's an idea of the massive post-production work put into the live action remake

Shortly after the "Voltes V: Legacy" mega trailer dropped and wowed the world — including Japanese animation company TOEI — here comes another round of thrilling updates sure to get your inner fanboy and fangirl even more excited for the much awaited live action remake.

On Monday, Paul Ticzon, First Vice President and Head of GMA Network Inc. Post-Production, shared the massive scope of "Voltes V: Legacy," saying the series is "the equivalent of 22 movies — that's 22 movies of almost every scene na may graphics, enhanced siya ng graphics."

Saying they're "doing everything we can for the graphics," Ticzon added, "'Yung mga pader dun, 'yung mga extension — the entire environment was actually created, extended from what is a small studio shot, extended to become and to look very, very large."

In fact, just for the video graphics alone, about 75% of the entire Post-Production staff of GMA Network is working on "Voltes V: Legacy."

That's not mentioning the additional personnel working on other aspects of the show, like the sound design.

"Pag narinig mo 'yung tugtog ng 'Voltes V' — 'Voltes V' 'yan. Pero syempre, '70s 'yun so although we wanted to keep as much of it, dun sa original soundtrack nung 'Voltes V,' syempre, we wanted to add a more modern sound to it."

Ticzon said they are applying several new software to "create distinct sonic signatures for all the animated characters," down to each and every robot and machine.

"If you listen very, very closely, when you get to see it finally, makikita mo na iba 'yung tunog ng bawat animated character dun sa 'Voltes V'."

He added, "The technology is only as good as the people who operate it," calling the people at GMA Post-Production "passionate" and "dedicated," all making for the "perfect combination."

It would be safe to say the post-production work is as impressive as the on-cam  job.

"I think the cast is put together very, very well," Ticzon said. "If you're a fan of the original series, the original anime — when you see the cast today, pinag-isipan. Pinag-isipan 'yung casting nung 'Voltes V: Legacy.'"

The show will star Miguel Tanfelix, Ysabel Ortega, Dennis Trillo, Carla Abellana, Max Collins, and many more.

But given all the bells and whistles, Ticzon still points to the human element of the series. "Maraming lessons in life na mapupulot from 'Voltes V,'" he said. "The program has stories within stories. If you're not familiar, 'Voltes V' is very family-centric. Three of the five main characters are siblings so 'yung family bond nung makakapatid na 'yun is very, very strong."

Overall, as a childhood fan of "Voltes V" himself, he said, "Di lang ikatutuwa ng mga fans, longtime fans ng 'Voltes V,' but ikatutuwa ng mga bagong audiences."

GMA Network dropped the mega-trailer of "Voltes V:Legacy" on New Year's Eve. It quickly amassed 2M views on Facebook under 24 hours.

Fans couldn't help but turn excited on a number of things, including footage of Martin del Rosario, Liezel Lopez, Epi Quizon, and Carla Abellana in character and in iconic scenes pulled straight from the anime, and a new character reveal: Dennis Trillo is to play Ned Armstrong. — LA, GMA Integrated News
