April Boy's son JC Regino shares the most important lesson learned from his father
JC Regino is an OPM musician following in his dad’s footsteps, the late April Boy.
After spending some time in the US to work, JC is now back in the Philippines and signed with GMA Music.
In a virtual press conference following his contract signing, GMA News Online learned more about how JC and his dad shared a passion for music.
According to JC, it was April Boy who taught him how to play the guitar at age 13. He started composing songs a year later at 14.
He recalled the first song he wrote as a teen, “hindi niya po nagustuhan.”
JC said, “Siguro, English, wrong grammar, tsaka pang-bigo.”
April Boy told JC, “14 years old ka pa lang, pang bigo na agad yung kanta mo?”
Since then, JC has learned to take a more personal approach, adding the biggest lesson he learned from his father is to make and perform music from the heart.
Whenever he would write, JC woul let his dad listen to his song as the first critic.
JC did not plan on being a singer, but he was encouraged by the OPM icon to sing. April Boy would then teach him the technical aspects of reaching high notes and breathing practices.
