Raffy Tima, Connie Sison have wise words for budding journalists

Having been in journalism for years now, Raffy Tima and Connie Sison know very well that passion and being aware of one’s surroundings are essential in doing the job well.

In an interview with GMA Integrated News on Thursday, Connie said it is important to keep the fire burning to last in the industry. One must not give up, she said.

“Kailangan meron kang passion. Ibigay mo syempre 'yung lahat,” she said. “’Wag mong i-give up kasi talagang maraming times na mahirap. ‘Yun 'yung magbibigay sa’yo ng experience na ‘di matatawaran.”

“‘'Yun 'yung magbibigay sa inyo ng confidence later on in life to deal with difficulties na puwede mong maharap. Never give up and pray,” she added.

Raffy, meanwhile, added that a budding journalist should always strive to be updated with everything.

“Dapat manood lagi ng balita, hindi lang Koreanovela at telenovala. Magbasa ng dyaryo, bagama’t onti nalang yata naglalabas ng dyaryo, at online platforms,” he said.

“Learn your history,” he added. “Dapat alam niyo 'yung history kasi lahat ng nangyayari ngayon, may kaugnayan sa nangyayari noon. Kung alam niyo 'yung history, mas madali para sa inyo yung present.”

Raffy and Connie renewed their contracts with GMA Integrated News on Thursday, marking over 10 years as “Balitanghali” anchors.

Among Connie’s other shows with GMA include “Pinoy MD” and “Unang Hirit.” Raffy, meanwhile, has also been reporting for “24 Oras” and doing a special coverage on climate change. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
