Bea Alonzo on starring in upcoming 'Ang Larawan' musical: 'Kabado ako dito'

Bea Alonzo admitted that she is nervous about starring on first-ever musical when she appears in "Ang Larawan: The Concert."

According to Aubrey Carampel's report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, Bea will play Elsa Montes, a cameo character.

As a theater fan herself, Bea said she is excited for the project.

"I always like pushing myself to my limits and trying things that are new to me, para lang ano, para lang ma-shake ka ng konti kasi ayoko maging kumportable lang parati," she said.

"And this makes me feel uncomfortable and ano 'to, kabado ako dito so it's a good thing kapag kinakabahan," she added.

The musical also stars Celeste Legaspi, Rachel Alejandro, Bituin Escalante, Mitch Valdes, and Dulce, among others. The show even includes an orchestra headed by the musical director and National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab. He also did the music for the project.

"Makita n'yo naman kung gaano siya ka-star studded both from TV, movies and from theater na actors are coming all together in this wonderful, wonderful material and huwag nating kalimutan na si Mr. Cayabyab ang gumawa ng musika nito," she said.

National Artist for Theater Rolando Tinio wrote and translated the libretto for the show. The musical is based on the three-act English play, "A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino" by National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin.

A movie version of "Ang Larawan" was released in 2017 and starred Sparkle singer Aicelle Santos. She is also a part of the upcoming concert, where it will be her first time working with Bea and Bodjie Pascua.

"I'm very thrilled and I'm very lucky to be sharing the stage with all of them lalong lalo na 'yung mga haligi ng ating teatro," said Aicelle.

Just in time for National Heritage Month, the musical is scheduled for May 6 at the Metropolitan Theater.

Fans of Bea can also see her next in "Love Before Sunrise" with Dennis Trillo.
