GMA-7 Hollywood correspondent Janet Nepales receives 3 awards from LA press club
GMA-7's Hollywood correspondent Janet Nepales received three awards from the Los Angeles Press Club's 65th Southern California Journalism Awards held on Sunday in Los Angeles.
Nepales received second place award in the Entertainment News, Film/Broadcast – Online category for her article on "'Puss in Boots: The Last Wish' Co-Director Januel Mercado on Working on His First Feature Film" and third place for Personality Profile – Foreign Correspondents also on the same article.
She also received third place award for her article on "Al Pacino Goes Down Memory Lane at the 50th Anniversary of 'The Godfather' at Tribeca."
Receiving The President's Award for Impact on Media that night was Spectrum 1 journalist Giselle Fernandez, who was presented the award by actress Sharon Stone.
Other awardees that night included Alene Tchekmedyian of the Los Angeles Times, who received The Guardian Award for her First Amendment Contributions. Actor Gary Sinise, who heads the Gary Sinise Foundation, received The Bill Rosendahl Public Service Award for Contributions to Civic Life.
Philosopher-writer-filmmaker Bernard-Henri Levy received The Daniel Pearl Award for Courage and Integrity in Journalism. David Ono of ABC7 received The Joseph M. Quinn Award for Lifetime Achievement while host-actor-comedian-author John Leguizamo received The President's Award for Impact on Media.
Nepales, who is based in Los Angeles and a University of Santo Tomas Journalism cum laude alum, also recently received the Outstanding Entertainment Journalist Award from the Filipino American Press Club of California (FAPCCA) during its second Media Awards.
At the same event, she also received the Senate Certificate of Recognition from Senator Susan Rubio of the 22nd District for Outstanding Journalist/Author.
Nepales came out with her first limited edition hardbound coffee table book, "FASHION. Filipino. Hollywood. The World," which was a finalist in the recently held 2022 15th Annual National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards (NAEJ) of the Los Angeles Press Club. The paperback edition is now available on amazon.com.
Nepales, who is the first Filipina voting member of the Golden Globe Awards, was recognized by the Filipina Women's Network (FWN) as one of the "100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the US" in 2012 and as one of the "100 Most Influential Filipino Women in the World" in 2013. She is a co-author of the first FWN book entitled "DISRUPT: Filipina Women: Proud. Loud. Leading Without A Doubt."
She is married to journalist-author Ruben V. Nepales with whom she has two daughters – Bianca Nicole and Rafaella Angelica.
