Awra Briguela detained after Poblacion brawl; friends call for #JusticeForAwra

Awra Briguela has been detained by the Makati City police after her alleged involvement in a brawl outside The Bolthole Bar in Poblacion on Thursday.

According to the police report, Briguela, 19, and seven others got into an altercation with another customer at the bar around 5 a.m. in the morning.

The complainant is Mark Christian Ravana, 23, and Angelo Nino Gulmatico, 33, a bouncer at the bar.

In the police report, Ravana said he was celebrating at the bar with his friends when Awra and some of her friends approached them and teased him to remove his shirt.

He said he declined to do so and tried to distance himself by going out of the bar, but Awra followed him and pulled his shirt.

A commotion then ensued and Ravana said Awra and her friends took turns "mauling" him.

Police from the Poblacion Substation responded to the incident and tried to pacify Awra, but she shouted and then pushed a police officer.

The actress has been arrested for physical injuries, alarms and scandal, disobedience [to] person in authority and direct assault.

Awra was taken to the substation for case referral and later to the Ospital ng Makati for mandatory examination.

Meanwhile, Awra's friends defended her on social media after what happened, among them vlogger Riva Quenery.

In an Instagram post Thursday evening, Riva said she received a call from Awra that morning following her arrest.

"Kaninang umaga, tumawag siya at nalaman kong inaresto siya sa Makati dahil sa isang kaguluhan na nangyari. Dinalaw ko siya sa police station sa Makati kung saan siya na-detain at biglang bumagsak ang balikat ko nung nakita ko siya," Riva said.

[This morning, she called me and I learned she was arrested in Makati because of the brawl that happened. I visited him at the police state in Makati where she was detained and my heart sank when I saw her.]

"Kinwento nya sakin ang sinapit nya matapos nyang ipagtanggol ang kaibigan nya laban sa grupo ng mga lalaking hinipuan ang kanyang kaibigan. Nauwi sa mainit na pagtatalo yung mga sumunod na nangyari na kung saan sinuntok sya ng nasabing lalaki. Nasundan na ng away sa magkabilang grupo hanggang sa dumating na yung mga pulis," she added.

[She told me what happened to her after she defended her friend from the men who harassed her friend. A heated argument soon transpired where she was punched by the aforementioned men. A fight broke out until police came.]

Vlogger Zeinab Harake also took to Twitter to defend Awra.

"Having Awra sa buhay ng mga kaibigan niya is a win, grabe 'tong batang 'to sa sobrang pag mamahal niya magagawa niya 'yung mga bagay na hindi mo aasahan maparamdam lang niya sa 'yong anjan s'ya sa hirap o ginhawa," she said.

[Having Awra in our lives is a win. Because she loves her friends so much, she can do things you won't expect just to make her friends feel her presence.]

"Kaya andito den kaming mga totoong ipaglalaban ka, walang iwanan sa ere ayun ang tunay na kaibigan!"

[And that's why we are here to fight for you. True friends don't leave each other behind.]

Yna Magenda, meanwhile, said Awra was only standing up for her friends who got harassed inside the bar.

GMA Integrated News has reached out to Awra. On Friday morning, her lawyer, Atty. Jose Protacio Sandoval Medalla, said no comment.
