Isko Moreno on noontime show rivalries: 'Nothing to prove'

Isko Moreno said having several options for noontime shows benefits the viewers more than anything else.

On Monday's episode of "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," the newly minted "Eat Bulaga" host said he is focusing on being the best he can be on his craft, instead of instead of focusing on competition.

"Nothing to prove. Just be the best you can be," he said.

“Ngayon, ang noontime show, buffet na, marami ng choices ang ating mga kababayan,” he added.

The former Manila mayor also recalled a conversation with his fellow "Eat Bulaga" hosts where he told them to focus on the good instead of feeling the pressure.

"Nasa isang room kami, and I told them, 'Guys, I've seen so many failures in life, I've seen success, I've seen challenges, but one good thing about today, we're gonna be part of history,'" he said.

"'Let's enjoy this afternoon because at the end of the day, tao ang mananalo dito'," he added.

"It's Showtime" premiered on GTV last Saturday, going head-to-head with "Eat Bulaga" on GMA-7 and TVJ's new show on TV5.

When asked how he felt when the ratings came in on Monday and "Eat Bulaga" rated least, he said it was "understandable."

"That's understandable because there's so much hype and drama that happened in the past weeks and days," Isko said.

“Kami naman, basta tayo, focus tayo, ang gawin nating ‘Eat Bulaga’ ngayon, hindi na tungkol sa mga host, tungkol na sa mga viewers, maging viewers-centric tayong show, ilapit natin yung ‘Eat Bulaga’ sa kanila,” he added.

According to Isko, competition is healthy because it brings out the best in the artists.

“If there will be [a] buffet, lalabas lahat ng galing ng mga artista, kasi may kumpitensya,” he said.

“Kumbaga ang point ko, let’s not create hate and expect somebody to fail for you to go up [na] para tumaas ka, aapakan mo yung likod ng may likod, o paa ng may paa,” he added.

Isko is the newest host of the all-new "Eat Bulaga," where he has his own segment dubbed "G sa Gedli."

Last week, Vice Ganda shared a heartwarming interaction with Isko about "It's Showtime" airing on GTV.

“Nagyakapan kami, tapos sabi niya, ‘congratulations ah, nabalitaan ko,’” Vice told reporters following the contract signing of “It’s Showtime” and GTV.

At the contract signing. GMA Network's Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon said in a speech that the "TV war is over."

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN's President and CEO Carlo Katigbak thanked GMA for the kindness.

On GTV Saturday, "It's Showtime" launched with an epic 30-minute opening number, combining Kapuso and Kapamilya celebrities, including Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, Rayver and Rodjun Cruz, and the "It's Showtime" mainstay hosts.
