QCPD gives update on Ronaldo Valdez's death, awaiting results of paraffin and ballistic tests

After confirming the passing of veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez on Sunday, December 17, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) released a statement earlier today.

According to the QCPD, they are “conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the death of Mr. James Gibbs aka Ronaldo Valdez.”

In Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras,” Monday, Major Don Don Llapitan, chief of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, said that the actor was found in his room around three o’clock in the afternoon and he had a gunshot wound. A gun was also found.

“Si Sir Ronaldo Valdez ay nakaupo po sa kanyang upuan, wala na pong malay. May tama sa right temple at ‘yung baril na ginamit nga ay nasa kamay pa rin ‘yung baril po,” said Major Llapitan.

Valdez was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The QCPD said that their investigation is still ongoing.

Because a gun was found in the room, everyone in Valdez’s house was subjected to a paraffin test. This is part of the standard operating procedure for incidents that may involve a crime and doesn’t necessarily mean they are involved in what happened.

They are still awaiting the results of the paraffin and ballistic tests.

Valdez’s showbiz career took off in 1966 and since then, he has taken on memorable roles in both movies and television.

He was also part of some of GMA’s shows including “Beh Bote Nga,” “Bahay Mo Ba ‘To,” and “Meant to Be.”

On Instagram, actor and singer Janno Gibbs confirmed his father’s passing. Their family is requesting “that you respect our privacy in our grieving moment.”
