For the PH film industry, 'Konsyerto sa Palasyo' demonstrates much needed commitment and support from the government
Filmmakers and artists lauded the government of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the support it has shown for the Philippine film industry.
At the recently concluded “Konsyerto sa Palasyo: Para Pelikulang Pilipino,” Film Development Council of the Philippines Chairperson and CEO Jose Javier Reyes said the film industry greatly appreciates the efforts of the President and his wife, First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, in spearheading the fifth installment of Konsyerto sa Palasyo.
“It proved, once and for all, that this is one administration that does not just really give lip service,” Reyes said.
“Here, we see a deliberate and concerted effort of the administration to really help the film industry, which is in dire need of the support of the government,” he added.
Veteran actress Lorna Tolentino echoed Reyes' sentiments, saying the government’s efforts, such as the recent concert at the Palace, are significant.
“Sana ito ‘yung start ulit lalong-lalo na sa Metro Manila Film Fest. I think du'n nagsimula muli ‘yung pagiging masigasig ulit ng mga manonood ng mga pelikula," Tolentino said.
Gladys Reyes meanwhile said, "Sana po talaga tuloy-tuloy na ito … doble po ‘yung kaligayahan na malaman namin na mayroong ganitong event sa Palasyo sa pangunguna nga po ng ating Pangulo."
Among the attendees of the Malacañang concert include GMA Network Senior Vice President Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes and Ruru Madrid, who is set to star in a Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2024 entry, “Green Bones," directed by Zig Dulay, a Ten Outstanding Young Men Awardee 2024.
Along with her husband Kiko Pangilinan, the Megastar Sharon Cuneta was also present at the event, and in an Instagram post, said she "got the warmest hug from the FL, like no time had passed! And then of course, the warmest, biggest hug from the President."
Zsa Zsa Padillia, who was among the performers, said she "felt truly honored singing for my peers in the movie industry!"
"Mabuhay ang Pelikulang Pilipino," she added.
Vice Ganda and Kokoy de Santos of the MMFF entry "...And The Breadwinner Is" were also present, as was Cristine Reyes.
Now on its 5th installment, "Konsyerto sa Palasyo" not only puts the spotlight on the vital role of the local film industry in shaping Filipino culture, but also celebrates its contributions to the country's artistic heritage.
